\nThe Marco Polo Journals was a very interesting project in which I can allow my imagination and senses to run wild. I am someone else in a different land, facing dangers and joys uncounted. The main difficulties I had when doing the journals were locating the exact dates and all the events that supposed to happen at that date. Otherwise, it was a fine project and one of the best I've encountered.","dateCreated":"1240287607","smartDate":"Apr 20, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"JessicaWu7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/JessicaWu7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1240614308\/JessicaWu7-lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"10827550","dateCreated":"1238731552","smartDate":"Apr 2, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"JessicaWu7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/JessicaWu7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1240614308\/JessicaWu7-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/yms-7-jwu.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/10827550"},"dateDigested":1532653692,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Movie Lesson #2: Marco Polo","description":"1. Marco Polo's journey was extremely significant with respect to world history. If he had not visited China, it would probably much later, that the Europeans would find out about the great Cathay and Mongols. Marco Polo had gone as high ambassador to the court of the great Khan according to Pope Gregory's wishes in the name of the pope. Such stories and accounts he brought back that they should, with God's grace, last forevermore in the history of our world.
\n
\n2. Back then, with trade flourishing and the cross at large, and Venice a wealthy and beautiful city, the Europeans had a right to feel that their lands are the best in the world. However, they had not the mind to think that some civilization from the "barbaric" far east had the fortune to rise to power and Polo's tale of such extreme wonder that is not their's is hard to believe.
\n
\n3. The most I enjoyed about the Marco Polo mini-series is the part when Marco Polo had just arrived in the northern steppes of the Mongols. Though everyone were so friendly afterwards, it was a bit frightening to see all those Mongols surrounding you, not knowing whether you were friend or foe, and the Kublai Khan was rather intimidating on his high throne.
\n
\n4. I would have certainly loved the great adventure and the luxury of court and the chance to record and gain knowledge. However, the journey had taken years and was extremely dangerous and with many narrow escapes, thanks to Marco. I would not like to suffer in the desert or die in Muslim territory.

\n1. I've never had much trouble with anything in this class until this second trimester which happens to be the worst struggle in my entire life. To tell the truth, I am never much of a technology person even if I yearn to become one. Either that, or I am slow as a sloth. It is hard to follow along at a fast pace as we do now and still know everything. I often make frantic scrabbles at night to finish online stuff even if I really manage in the end. Also, that Marco Polo Journals are troubling. They are interesting and let my imagination run wild, but with the homework load that I can hardly keep up with, it is barely fun at all.
\n
\n2. The documentaries help me understand everything we are learning and add extra-interesting information to boot. Instead of reading and reading, we are actually seeing and almost feeling the things that happened. If there was a massacre, I would feel the horror and war drums beating in tune with my heart. If there was a person like Cleopatra or Dido, I can laugh over her absurd wishes. I can really understand documentaries.
\n
\n3. I particularly enjoy, not the lab times which are the worst times, but the movie lessons. We had just watched the Marco Polo miniseries and it is absolutely fascinating. The room is plunged in velvety darkness like the night with only the screen, brilliant and awashed with colors for us to view.

\n1. I did not have much trouble with this class for normally, work comes to me easily. I've mostly understood everything. I suppose the quizzes can be hard, since I don't have much time to really study every phrase in the history book and even if it is only fifty points, it takes up a lot.
\n
\n2. I must say that the documentaries and the movie lesson we watched helped me understand the class the most. I learn so much from them, and instead of a tiny television the size of a cereal box, MR.TRAN has an advanced sound system and a huge screen for our enjoyment. The scenes from the lessons often awe me and I can, with a little shifting of imagination, allow myself to be in the movie with no problem. There is so much background information to be had many things that fire up my curiosity for reasearch. These movies can really teach better than that book.
\n
\n3. Once again, I must say that I love the movie lessons the most. Watching makes me feel that I'm in a real theater or in the movie. Some scenes may be gruesome and violent and I want to cover my eyes or exclaim when one of these come up. However, I am very fascinated, and the moment I get home, I would lug up onto the Internet to look up all the gory details.
